Cook Clock by PierDo

Using Cook Clock

Cook Clock plans a smoker cook backward from the time you want to eat. It shows when to light the smoker as a latest start with a margin, and the wrap and done windows as ranges, never one promised time.

Plan a cook

Open New cook, choose the cut, weight and smoker temperature, and set the serve time and how long the meat should rest. Cook Clock starts from the slow end of the range and adds a margin for the stall, so the plan tells you the latest time to light the smoker. Ranges come from typical times per pound; weather, cooker and cut size change them.

Doneness and food safety

Times are planning estimates. Judge doneness by internal temperature with a thermometer, not by the clock. For minimum safe internal temperatures, see the USDA safe temperature chart, linked from the plan and from About.

Reminders

A start-time reminder is free; reminders at the main steps are part of Cook Clock Pro. Cook Clock asks Android for notification permission only when you turn a reminder on, and schedules it on this phone. Reminders can arrive late when the phone saves battery. The countdown on the Plan tab works without them.

Mark a cook finished

When a cook is done, choose Mark finished and keep the real start and done times. They go to History. After three finished cooks of a cut at a temperature, Cook Clock Pro can plan from your own cooks and shows the spread.

Export, back up and restore

Open a plan on the Plan tab to save it as text or CSV. The More tab has the JSON backup of everything. The app asks where to save the file; it is written only there. To restore, choose Restore from a backup file and pick the file. After you confirm, the backup replaces what is on this device, so make a new backup first if you want to keep what is there. A backup is a single JSON file from Cook Clock; other files are refused. Purchases are never saved in or restored from a backup. Exports and backup stay free.

Free and Cook Clock Pro

Free includes single-item plans, three planned cooks, unlimited history with actual times, the in-app countdown, a start-time reminder on each planned cook, plan exports, and backup and restore. Cook Clock Pro is one optional one-time purchase that adds several items in one timeline, unlimited planned cooks, custom cuts and extra smoker profiles, calibration from your own cooks, the detailed cook log and reminders at the main steps. There is no subscription and no ads. Everything included from the start keeps working with or without Cook Clock Pro.

Restore a purchase

Open the More tab, then Cook Clock Pro, and choose Restore purchase. Use the Google Play account that bought Cook Clock Pro and keep the device online while it checks. If checkout was interrupted, choose Restore purchase or Check purchase status before you try to buy again, and do not start another purchase while one is pending.

Delete all data

Delete all data in the More tab removes your cooks and settings from this device and cancels their reminders. A purchase you made stays unlocked. Save a backup file first if you may need the data.

Storage trouble

If a save fails, what you were entering stays on screen so you can try again. Check the free storage on the device. Do not clear app data to fix a save problem: that removes your cooks. Export a backup first if you can.
